SAFETY equipment is very important in hospitals, especially in a pandemic. keeping up with inspection and maintenance of safety equipment is important for staff and patient safety. yet few systems are in place for streamlining this task.
X-Tracking™ is a real-time tracking solution for recording safety equipment, their status and service dates. Finding, inspecting and reporting on safety equipment is faster and compliancy issues are minimized
– Spending too much time finding and inspecting safety equipment
– Safety equipment is recorded in a local spreadsheet or even on paper
– Lack of overview of inspection dates
– Overdue maintenance dates leading to compliance issues
– Safety inspectors struggling to keep up providing service
X-Tracking™ supports real-time tracking of thousands of medical devices and other assets with different configurations of hardware and software components and tracking technologies.
Safety equipment solutions are based on four main components:
– The X-Tracking front-end application
– Backend engine and integration layer
– Tag reader
Safety equipment is tagged with flexible rubber RFID tags. One RFID tag is mounted on respiratory masks, face shield, surgical masks in a position, where it can be easily read by ceiling mounted RFID antennas and RFID Handheld Terminals. The RFID tags are made of rubber to withstand intensive disinfection and washing. The RFID tag is programmed with a GIAI code and displays a laser-etched GIAI 2D barcode and human readable text.
The RFID tag is read by RFID antennas installed at logistic choke points throughout the hospital, which may already have been installed for medical device tracking. At each choke point, the safety equipment automatically changes location in X-Tracking when passing through the choke point.
X-Tracking™ is the real-time frontend tracking solution capable of tracking and maintaining records for safety equipment. The X-Tracking frontend shows tracking information for safety equipment to hospital and safety inspectors, provides search features and features to change status of safety equipment and create events.
The X-Tracking frontend consists of the following applications: X-Tracking Web Application, X-Tracking HHT Android App.
In X-Tracking™ hospital staff and safety inspectors can easily search for all types of safety equipment by just typing part of a name and location. Staff can search across all types, names, status, locations in X-Tracking™. The search result contains; last seen location, name, status, type, and any highlighted notifications.
In X-Tracking HHT Android App safety inspectors can manually scan RFID tags or barcodes to record safety equipment as shown above.
The X-Tracking HHT Android App is also used in the process of mounting RFID tags on safety equipment and ensure RFID data matches device master data.
The RFID tags mounted on safety equipment are read by xReaders installed in logistic choke points and by RFID Handheld Terminals carried by safety inspectors. The laser-etched barcode on RFID tags can be scanned by the RFID Handheld Terminal.
xReaders are UHF RFID readers with ceiling mounted RFID antennas that are installed at both sides of a logistic choke point such as entries to departments and service facilities in the hospital. xReaders automatically read and track safety equipment through choke points. Reading distance in a choke point is reduced to 3-4 meters and timing is within 1-2 seconds.
RFID Handheld Terminals are used by safety inspectors to manually register safety equipment for inspection and change the status of a medical device e.g. inspecting a respiratory mask and change status to Available, whereby a new inspection date for the mask can be issued.
Lyngsoe LIVE Logistics manages and handles data consolidation of tag readings from all safety equipment, processing of data captured from barcodes and RFID tags. It handles location management and location master data.
Lyngsoe LIVE Logistics manages a trace database and provides validated tracking information for safety equipment through a standard EPCIS interface to frontend applications or ERP systems. Master data for safety equipment can be created and maintained in X-Tracking to replace local spreadsheets.
VALUE PROPOSITIONS – SOLUTION THEME
Hospitals face business issues like any other large organization. By introducing RFID technology and X-Tracking into your flow, you will be able to automate and seamlessly deliver value such as:
On top of this automated tracking of safety equipment and streamlining of workflow, tracking information can be used for reporting and analysis. This allows healthcare executives and senior management to react quickly to — as well as prevent — obstacles related to items such as:
