CASE: Havi Logistics

Operational efficiency and effective traceability throughout Europe and China

HAVI Logistics is responsible for running the distribution of all deliveries for convenience shops, catering companies, and restaurant chains, for example, McDonald’s. HAVI Logistics operates more than 100 distribution centers in Europe and Asia and visits approximately 20,000 delivery points. Being able to manage the complex supply chain, operational efficiency, real-time visibility and traceability is a key requirement for success. The Lyngsoe LIVE Logistics™ platform was put into operation to provide an effective tool to support warehouse and distribution processes and providing HAVI Logistics with a real-time overview of products and shipments from producer to a retail store.

ABOUT HAVI Logistics

HAVI Logistics is a global, privately owned company focused on innovating, optimizing and managing the supply chains of leading brands. Offering services in supply chain management, packaging, logistics and recycling & waste, HAVI partners with companies to address challenges big and small across the supply chain, from commodity to customer. Founded in 1974, HAVI employs more than 10,000 people and serves customers in more than 100 countries. HAVI manages the flow of products in and out of three temperature zones – chilled, frozen and dry across their network.

THE CHALLENGE

Quick response strategy in case of recalls

Being faced with increased food traceability requirements as well as internal demands for improved supply chain efficiency made HAVI Logistics look for a new warehouse and distribution system in 2005. The system should provide them with a quick response strategy in case of recalls, enable supply chain visibility, and be scalable to support future market expansion. Full visibility and traceability were necessary to utilize the system for continuous supply chain optimization.

THE SOLUTION

Real-time transparent overview of the flow of products

Lyngsoe Systems’ solution provides a real-time transparent overview of the flow of products from manufacturers through distribution centers to restaurants. The system manages real-time traceability in the European and Chinese supply chain.

The solution is HAVI Logistics’ online documentation for food traceability and a tool to meet the EU Regulation 178/2002. Documentation is available through web-based reports to assigned users.

The solution handles the following warehouse and distribution processes:

  • Receiving of goods (HACCP, quality inspection)
  • Picking of goods
  • Loading of goods (consolidation and loading control)
  • Delivery/Proof of delivery
  • Stocktaking
  • DC to DC replenishment
  • Load unit and packaging material administration (housekeeping)

BENEFITS

Increased brand protection for both HAVI Logistics and their customers

  • Complete visibility and traceability throughout a global distribution network and provided the ability to block distribution at floor level and limit the number of affected products in case of a recall.
  • Online documentation for food traceability and increased brand protection for both HAVI Logistics and their customers.

RESULT

Full visibility and traceability

The customer has gained multiple benefits by implementing the Lyngsoe LIVE Logistics™ Platform, as the full visibility and traceability have supported them in meeting legal requirements as well as optimizing their global supply chain. They have improved the protection of their strong brands against brand value erosion and at the same time minimized consumers’ risks.

  • CASE: Pack and Sea A/S Tracking 350,000 returnable transport assets About Pack & Sea Pack and Sea A/S (http://packandsea.dk/) is a company formed by the ten leading Danish fishing ports to manage fish crate logistics. A total of more than 225,000 crates and add other types of assets circulating around multiple locations made tracking, invoicing and control an extremely complicated – and expensive – task. THE CHALLENGE Where are the crates located Knowing the whereabouts of 350,000 fish crates used to land fish was a former nightmare for the Danish fishing industry. Not only did each fishing port not always know where its allocated crates were, but they were facing a very big loss of crates, as these were not returned THE SOLUTION UHF RFID tags uniquely identifying each fish crate. Lyngsoe LIVE Logistics™ Asset Management solution includes, that each crate is fitted with two specially designed UHF RFID tags uniquely identifying each fish crate. • CASE: Danpo A/S Reception of live birds with RFID on transport modules About DANPO A/S 23 trucks from all over the country transport approximately 200,000 chickens for slaughter at Danpo’s plant in North Jutland per day. Danpo A/S is a division in the Scandi Standard group of poultry companies. THE CHALLENGE inaccurate data on the bird’s weight At Danpo, the standard way to record the average weight of chickens was to weigh the truck on a weighbridge and its entire cargo on arrival. This process was repeated on departure when the truck had been emptied and cleaned. This method led to inaccuracies, due to all the dirt, water, etc. on the truck at arrival, which was included at the original weighing on arrival, but not on the exit weighing; therefore giving inaccurate data on the bird’s weight. THE SOLUTION Lyngsoe Systems equipped around 500 chicken modules with robust RFID tags In order to eliminate this problem, Danpo implemented a system that only weighs the chicken cages while at the same time keeping track of where the birds came from. Danpo opted for an RFID solution, where Lyngsoe Systems equipped around 500 chicken modules with robust RFID tags, which can tolerate […]
