Traditionally library collections are based on the view, that they are to be comprehensive for the community they serve. This comprehensiveness is also related to the (published) knowledge so that the library shelves display a suitable collection of the knowledge available. Frederiksberg Public library is now rethinking the collection from a use perspective. The library poses the question: What would the collection look like, if the starting point is different patterns of use and not the idea of a comprehensive collection? This had led to a reconceptualization of the collection into three distinct collections, new ways of displaying them and new logistics to support it.

Tina Pihl has been the library director of Frederiksberg Public Libraries for close to 10 years. Frederiksberg is with its approximately 105.000 inhabitants one of the largest municipalities in Denmark. Frederiksberg public libraries consist of a main library and four branches. Before entering the world of libraries, Tina Pihl worked in communications in Denmark and Great Britain. She holds a master in communication and one in public administration. She also holds a Ph.D. in cultural studies.
