The University of Liverpool Library is delighted to be working with Lyngsoe Systems to combine best practice from the world of logistics with library data using IMMS.
[Aars, Denmark, 15/08/2019] – Lyngsoe Systems is pleased to announce that Liverpool University Library has become the first UK institution and the first institution outside Scandinavia to opt for Lyngsoe Systems Intelli-gent Material Management System™. The University Library will integrate IMMS with their Sierra Library Man-agement System from Innovative Interfaces Inc.
At University of Liverpool, the Library plays a key role in supporting the University’s intensive research and teaching by taking a proactive path and applying the best new technology to its services. The library is constant-ly on the prowl for the next big innovation that will make its wealth of resources easier to use and access. Its approach is assertive but disciplined, adopting early only on bona fide advances: those that take finding and using information a full step ahead.
IMMS complements Sierra and creates an unprecedented level of transparency in the material flow. Utilizing the latest tools for data collection, material management and logistics, items can be tracked to the shelf, shelving cart, transport bin, or storage location. These tools greatly increase the quality of data, and significantly improve the circulation of collections. As well as accurately keep track of every item placement in collections spanning over 15 kms of shelves. IMMS also helps prevent and/or detect handling errors and supplies accurate and de-tailed reports on item use and placements.
The University of Liverpool is a public university based in the city of Liverpool, England. Founded as a college in 1881, it gained its royal charter in 1903 with the ability to award degrees and is also known to be one of the six original ‘red brick’ civic universities. It comprises three faculties organized into 35 departments and schools. It is a founding member of the Russell Group.
AMH: An automated material handling system automates some of the sorting processes in a library. It allows patrons to return media without staff intervention. Patrons return media into the sorting system through dedicated inductions, where the integrated scanners read the media, and automatically report the media as returned to the library management system, where all data resides. The integrated scan-ners in the inductions read the RFID tags and/or bar codes on the media, and the software determines the appropriate material category (e.g. Novels), before sending the media on to the sorter. The sorter conveys the media to the chute as defined by the library staff in the control software.
IMMS: The Intelligent Material Management System is a logistical system, which complements your ex-isting ILS/LMS and creates an unprecedented level of transparency in your material flow. Utilizing new tools for data collection, items can be tracked to the shelf, shelving cart, transport bin, or storage loca-tion. These tools greatly increase the quality of data, and significantly improve the circulation of your collection. The intelligent distribution-algorithm manages and optimizes item distribution in a floating or partly floating collection.
