Prior to joining Lyngsoe Systems, what did you do?
Prior to Lyngsoe I was an design engineer and then Project Manager for a company called Crisplant, which then changed its name to FKI Logistex. That was great experience because i was working first hand with some of the largest names in retail, distribution, and airlines designing giant material handling systems for their operations.
What has kept you interested in library services?
I am lucky enough to travel around North America and speak with librarians, architects, and library visionaries about how to design the next great library. Even though we can play a small role within a massive building project, or a big role in a small project, I have often been told that the sortation system makes one of the largest impacts for staff and patrons! That is very gratifying
What does a typical workday involve for you?
Typical work day involves me taking specifications from the customer, and giving it to the engineers – I have people skills! All gratuitous references to the movie ‘Office Space’ aside – I get to work with a great sales staff and project and engineering staff every day coming up with bespoke designs to make libraries more efficient.
What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job has to be visiting a libary that has been up and running with a system for a few months.. and getting to hear from the staff that it has made their life better. From not having to wear their carpel tunnel braces anymore, to it just being more fun.
How do you help libraries?
I’d like to think that I help libraries by just listening. Listening to how they would like their operation to run, what they are doing special for their patrons – and then figuring out how to automate it.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, i absolutely love spending time with my family. We cook together always experimenting with different cuisines, and then getting to eat the experiments. We also enjoy skiing together, and going out and hiking around Virginia when we can. I have been a volunteer soccer coach, and track coach, and this year i am planning on mentoring a FIRST robotics team at my daughters high school.
