LibRid 4 and Lyngsoe LibDeco™ Now Meet Global Accessibility Standards, Including Full Screen Reader Support

Lyngsoe System Library Solutions' 2026 spring software release brings WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance to library self-service, so every patron can use the kiosk independently.

Libraries have long worked to make their physical spaces accessible to everyone. With this release, Lyngsoe extends that principle to the self-service kiosk experience.

The spring release of LibRid 4, the software powering our Lyngsoe LibDeco™ kiosk series, introduces a set of accessibility improvements that bring the core functionalities into compliance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, EN 301 549 (the European Accessibility Act standard), and the Revised Section 508 US federal standard.

What's new in this release

The most significant addition is integrated screen reader support, including an audio navigation pad and pin pad, allowing patrons with visual impairments to complete self-service transactions independently. Additional updates include improved color contrast throughout the interface, a high-contrast mode with enlarged fonts on focused elements for enhanced readability, and adjustable session timing, which gives patrons with cognitive or motor disabilities more control over their interaction.

Part of a broader commitment

Lyngsoe has designed for physical accessibility for years. Height-adjustable kiosk configurations have been part of the LibDeco and Library Mate offerings to ensure access regardless of mobility or stature. This release aligns the software experience with that same standard.

"Libraries serve everyone in their community, and so should the technology they rely on. With this release, we've made sure that patrons with visual impairments or cognitive challenges can use a LibDeco kiosk just as independently as anyone else. Add the kiosk's height-adjustable hardware to the picture, and accessible design covers a genuinely wide range of needs", says Thomas Bruun, Product Director at Lyngsoe Systems Library Solutions.

The update will soon be available for LibDeco installations running LibRid 4. Existing customers can contact their account manager for more information on the rollout.
