About the Library

Utsjoki Municipal Library (Pedar Jalvi Library) is located in the northernmost municipality in Finland and serves a large area with a small staff of two.

A Personal Library as a Solution to Resource Constraints

Over the years, the scarcity of resources has created challenges for staff and patrons alike. For example, if one member of staff is on holiday and another falls ill, we must close the library completely. This is unfortunate for both us and our customers, as the library's mission is to serve, not to remain closed.

The solution was sought through self-service library automation. Lyngsoe Systems was chosen as the supplier for the Utsjoki library and proved to be a good choice. The installation and commissioning of the self-service system went smoothly. Everything else went quickly and efficiently. Clear training was given to the library staff, and we were able to start using the self-service library very quickly. That was important to us.

The introduction of the Self-Operated Library has significantly expanded our service. Customers can now use the library with extended opening hours, and the library remains open even in unexpected situations, such as sick leave.

The Customer Experience Speaks for Itself

Self-Operated Library has been received with joy. The library is open every day from 9 to 21 (including weekends). Our customers appreciate the opportunity to visit when it suits them best. Families with children have particularly benefited from the morning self-service hours, which allow them to visit the library before their other activities of the day.

The solution has also made it possible to reach a whole new customer base. We have attracted users who did not previously visit the library during its regular hours of operation. This has increased the number of users and strengthened the library's position as an important meeting place for the village community.

Lyngsoe Systems' self-service library automation has brought much-needed flexibility, continuity and accessibility to the Utsjoki library. The solution has improved both the customer experience and day-to-day operations - and ensured that the library can serve its community better, every day of the year.
