Lyngsoe Systems A/S and the American companies Omni-ID and Axzon are pleased to announce the introduction of the latest state-of-the-art solution to manage and support the process of handling covid-19 vaccines. The solution enables vaccine centers to automate the management of vaccine administration including planning, automated data collection, temperature monitoring, vaccine authentication and vaccine validity. The solution provides complete oversight of the practical processes during the handling of Covid-19 or any other vaccines.
The method consists of three unique components.
The battery-free RFID smart sensor label has the unique capability of measuring both liquid volume and temperature of each individual vial to ensure the safe and correct dosage is administered to the patient. The advanced RFID sensor technology includes a unique traceable identifier, digital signature, and serial number to ensure authenticity.
The solution includes a workstation and advance IT RFID reading equipment, Smart RFID Handheld terminals, edge server, BLE Freezer\Fridge temperature monitoring equipment.

The background story for introducing this new and advanced technology right now, Keld Ole Nielsen Refers: “We are as humanity facing a giant challenge when it comes to handling covid-19 vaccines and some of the citizens in the countries around the world are already skeptical when it concerns vaccines and in particular the handling process and security around the vaccines including within the established healthcare system. The big question is how populations will react if or when concerns or doubt is raised in relation to the administration of vaccines due to the unprecedented complexity of vaccine handling related to the extreme temperature requirements and variance between handling procedures of the different vaccine manufacturers.

Supporting fully automated reads and a flexible “handheld” process
The work methodology is focused on the objective of the healthcare worker, to administer effective vaccines as efficiently as possible, and therefore the system supports fully automated data registration processes supported by a practical work tool to ensures speed and flexibility of the vaccination process within the vaccines centers. The solution is designed to ensure the vaccine process is completed in a conform and secure manner to avoid manual handling errors jeopardizing the safety of the citizens. The system supports; planning and vaccine center logistics scheduling activities allowing the local vaccine centers to implement standardized operational procedures, FIFO (First in first out) inventory management, monitoring time, and temperature conformance for the deep freezer storage, fridge storage, thawing, and dilution process before administration. “Safety, security, and speed in combination,” Keld Ole Nilsen Said.
Vaccine centers – Alerting the personnel
If vaccine vials or diluted vaccines are approaching the predefined time or temperature expiry thresholds an alarm is raised and the healthcare personnel is advised by SMS or E-mail. If a threshold is crossed individual vials can be quarantined and blocked in the system. All of the blocked vials and discarded vaccines are registered so it is possible to follow and obtain real-time status of the completed transactions as well as overviewing the quarantined vaccines. The information is automatically stored and can later be retrieved on a regional or national level which helps to prevent both individual errors and systemic handling errors.
The state-of-the-art smart sensor label is equipped with a permanent factory-programmed unique identifier, perma-locked vaccine vendor identifier with a unique serial number, and perma-locked digital signature enabling online authentication. Together these identifiers are used to prevent forgery of vaccine vials where it is a commonly known problem that criminal forces are trying to resell packaging with counterfeit content. Upon vial consumption vial identifiers are marked as consumed in the system. Furthermore, the RFID tag is killed after the contents are consumed preventing future reading of the tag data content or temperature and liquid volume measurement features.
Implementing the new generation of sensor labels
Pre smart sensor vaccine labels (current vaccine labels) require time-consuming manual vial identification handling procedures. Smart senor label technology enables automatic reading in bulk quantities at distances of up to 1.5 meters. This ensures safer more speedy inventorying and accounting as vaccine vials are moved through the processes; at receiving, to freezer/fridge, to dilution, to administration.
Security and documented vaccination with full traceability
New Smart Sensor Labeling technology enables speed in operational handling and minimizes waste in the manual vaccination administration process. It enables oversight, automated documentation, efficiencies in inventorying, and monitoring a large number of vaccine vials. It is possible to measure and register the temperature and fluid level of up to 200 vaccines in a matter of seconds. An automated digital trail is created as each individual vaccine is moved through the process allowing for the capturing of time, temperature, and volume for each vaccine vial.
The system is expected to be used as a part of the national health programs in the various countries supporting the enrollment of Covid-19 vaccines and potentially other future pandemics and other vaccines in general.
