Bridging industries – From healthcare to the wider supply chain with Andy James

Discover how our healthcare expert, Andy James, is taking his hospital and healthcare X-Tracking™ experience and applying it to the wider supply chain.

Fostering a culture of continuous improvement and adaptability has always been important at Lyngsoe Systems, so we’re thrilled that Andy James, our Sales & Business Development Director, is putting that into action by utilizing his knowledge and experience of the healthcare logistics sector and applying it to the wider supply chain market. Here he talks about his determination to showcase the versatility of our X-Tracking™ solution as he takes his extensive experience within healthcare, which has asset tracking similarities to the wider supply chain and sets his sights on expanding our client base across multiple industries.

Sharing knowledge and experience

For over thirty years Lyngsoe Systems has been providing innovation and technology to the logistics, supply chain, postal, airports and healthcare markets, amongst others. For the last several years, I’ve been deeply involved in promoting and enhancing our X-Tracking™ solution for the healthcare sector. I’ve supported many healthcare organizations in implementing the technology to understand the assets they hold and be able to easily track items that are critical to the running of a hospital. During this time, it’s become clear that there are many similarities in terms of the challenges faced in healthcare logistics when compared to the wider supply chain market. Therefore, it's become a natural progression to leverage my experience for the benefit of clients across various sectors. Recently, my focus has been shifting towards the broader supply chain industry where Lyngsoe already has decades of experience, with many of the RFID and asset tracking requirements broadly like that of healthcare. Regardless of industry, it’s important to know where your assets are, be it apparel stock, electronic goods or medical devices. I'm therefore eager to apply my healthcare insights to these wider applications, demonstrating how our solution can benefit many types of companies across a multitude of industries.

From smart healthcare to smart supply chain

Previously I’ve worked closely with a number of Health Boards and NHS trusts, including NHS Lothian and Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust to implement X-Tracking™ and streamline their operations, improve visibility of resources , and ensure the real time tracking of assets. Understanding the complexities of healthcare workflows and the critical importance of precision in this sector has been both challenging and rewarding. Time and time again, I’ve seen how implementing our solution has not only saved staff time, but also significantly enhanced patient safety by ensuring accurate asset tracking, in this case medical devices and equipment.

However, as technology continues to evolve, so do the opportunities for applying our solutions in new and impactful ways. Recognizing the immense potential of our X-Tracking™ software for wider logistics and supply chain sectors, I’ve made it my mission to demonstrate just how versatile the software is and how its functionality can be applied outside of the healthcare sector to deliver benefits for all types of businesses.

Leveraging healthcare insights for supply chain success

Broadening my remit from healthcare logistics to wider logistics and supply chain is not just a change in focus, but a chance to apply proven strategies in a new context. My experience in healthcare has given me a deep understanding of the need for accuracy, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making - core principles which are essential for any type of logistics operation.

In healthcare, I saw firsthand how meticulous tracking and real-time data can make a critical difference.  We all know that lost assets are a headache for any industry, as are the associated costs of locating or replacing these items so the ability to minimize these instances and the disruption caused is a huge benefit. Data accuracy is another fundamental element for any type of logistics business, whether that’s the ability to record and access up-to-date live medical device location, or report on stock levels based on understanding the volume and location of assets, having the right technology in place that’s been designed to support these processes is the key to unlocking potential.

I’m aiming to translate healthcare levels of precision to wider logistics operations, where RFID technology can be used to deliver accurate tracking and efficient management, both of which can save time and drive improvements. The logistics and supply chain industry, much like healthcare, relies on the seamless coordination of numerous moving parts, and I’m eager to demonstrate how this can be managed using X-Tracking™.

Looking ahead

This transition from healthcare to the wider supply chain is an exciting new chapter for me at Lyngsoe Systems. The experience and insights I’ve gained from healthcare are invaluable assets as I focus on driving the success of X-Tracking™. My experience underscores the value of cross-industry knowledge, and over the coming months I’m committed to connecting with new clients and sharing how our cutting-edge solution can redefine logistics operations.
