Lyngsoe RFID Tunnel Reader– Real-Time Validation for Inbound and Outbound Flows

High-performance RFID identification and verification—without the cost and complexity of traditional tunnels—turning real-time data into accurate shipments and reliable inventory.

The Solution

Real-Time RFID Validation Without Physical Tunnels

The Lyngsoe RFID Tunnel Reader is a standardized and configurable solution designed for modern warehouse and logistics operations. It enables automated verification of carton contents—regardless of size—across both inbound and outbound flows.

Unlike traditional RFID tunnels, this solution delivers high-performance validation without adding physical complexity. With no need for shielding or physical tunnel structures, it offers a simpler, more flexible approach compared to conventional solutions. It ensures that what your systems say is in the box matches what is moving through your warehouse—helping you maintain accurate, reliable inventory at all times.

Designed for high-speed operations, the system enables rapid and reliable reading even in demanding conveyor environments, supporting efficient throughput without compromising accuracy.

The Benefits

Measurable Operational Impact

Even small picking, packing, or receiving errors can create costly downstream issues.

The Lyngsoe RFID Tunnel Reader addresses this by introducing automated, real-time verification:

  • Inbound: Confirms received SKU quantities and validates labeling accuracy at goods receipt
  • Outbound: Ensures every carton contains the correct SKUs, correct quantities, and is linked to the correct customer order before shipment

The result is fewer shipping errors, improved customer satisfaction, and higher confidence in inventory data.

Simple and Cost-Efficient deployment

The Lyngsoe RFID Tunnel Reader is designed to remove the typical barriers associated with RFID tunnel deployments while fitting seamlessly into existing warehouse environments.

A key advantage is that no shielding or physical tunnel structures are required, reducing both complexity and cost. As a non-intrusive, stand-alone unit, the system can be mounted directly on or above existing conveyors and installed without structural changes or dedicated infrastructure—allowing you to upgrade your operation without redesigning it.

This makes the solution ideal for both new facilities and retrofitting them into live operations.

This means:

  • Faster deployment
  • Lower installation costs
  • Minimal disruption to ongoing operations

Performance Highlights

Under standard conditions and with system tuning*, the solution delivers reliable, high-speed performance:

Parameter:Performance:
Belt speed (max)350 ft/min
Item separation (minimum)16 in
Max. SKUs per carton (up to)350
Read rate performance> 99.9%

*) Performance can be further optimised through application-specific system tuning

System Components

The solution is built on industry-proven, best-in-class components designed for consistent and reliable performance:

  • High Performance RFID Reader: High-performance RFID reader powered by Zebra Technologies for consistent and reliable tag capture
  • Scalable RFID Antenna Configuration:
    • Single antenna (top-mounted) – standard configuration. Suitable for controlled environments where RFID labels have a consistent orientation. Delivered as an out-of-the-box solution enabling reliable high-speed data capture with a simple and cost-efficient setup.
    • Dual antenna (top + under-belt) – standard configuration. Designed for applications where label orientation cannot be controlled. A combination of top-mounted and under-belt antennas ensures consistent read performance regardless of tag position, with a ready-to-deploy setup.
    • Multi-antenna configurations – extended coverage. For scenarios where both outer labels and RFID-tagged items inside cartons or bags need to be captured, the antenna setup can be easily adjusted and fine-tuned to ensure complete and reliable data capture.
  • Photosensor (optional): Enables precise carton detection and read triggering.
  • Barcode Scanner (optional, on request): High-performance Zebra barcode reader matching carton barcodes with RFID enabled content.

Software

The embedded software is designed for real-time performance and ease of use:

  • Real-Time Singulation Algorithm: Intelligent tag matching algorithm optimizes read accuracy and throughput based on flow conditions.
  • Cross-Read Suppression: Ensures only RFID tags associated with the targeted item are read, eliminating interference from nearby items.
  • Embedded Stand-Alone Design: Fully self-contained - when using photosensor as trigger no external controllers is required.
  • Configuration Interface: Simple setup of run-time parameters and data communication parameters such as ERP/WMS data formats.

Triggers

  • Photosensor: Automatically detects cartons and initiates RFID reading
  • TCP/IP: Enables read-on-demand functionality via network communication

Interfaces

The system integrates smoothly with existing IT and automation landscapes:

  • ERP / WMS Interface: Sends verified RFID data directly to business systems
  • PLC Interface: Supports communication with conveyor and machine control systems
  • Supported Protocols: MQTT, OPC-UA, TCP/IP, EPCIS, JSON*

*Industry-standard protocols for real-time and event-driven data exchange
