Case Story: St. Luke's Hospital

Transforming Healthcare Asset Management

Discover how Bradford NHS Trust uses Lyngsoe X-Tracking™ to monitor up to 38,000 assets, cut costs, boost efficiency, and improve patient care.

Bradford NHS Trust Renews and Extends its Asset Tracking Agreement with Lyngsoe Systems until 2030

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT) has renewed its license for Lyngsoe Systems’ X-Tracking™ solution until October 2030 and will extend the system to St. Luke’s Hospital. The trust will look to install 40 new Zebra Technologies readers with 80 antennas at St. Luke’s, totalling 172 readers and 354 antennas, tracking up to 38,000 assets across Bradford and Airedale NHS Trust sites.

This expansion builds on four years of outstanding results across Bradford and Airedale Trusts, where Lyngsoe X-Tracking™ has revolutionized device management, delivering real-time, 24/7 visibility of medical equipment, proactively driving maintenance compliance, accelerating response times in critical situations, and cutting unnecessary rental costs.

As Shivinder Singh, Clinical Engineering Team leader, BTHFT, says, “Lyngsoe X-Tracking™ has brought greater visibility and control to how we manage medical equipment across our sites. Extending the system to St. Luke’s is the natural next step and will help us continue to improve asset availability, maintenance, and operational efficiency.”

How Lyngsoe X-Tracking™ has transformed medical device management

Since its mid-2021 launch, Lyngsoe X-Tracking™ has achieved impressive outcomes. Across Bradford Royal Infirmary and Airedale facilities, the platform has:

Improved cross-site visibility

Clinical engineering teams can now track every tagged device in real time. The platform also monitors inter-trust equipment transfers, streamlining what was once a challenging process.

Enhanced preventive maintenance

The system flags upcoming service windows so technicians can locate and service equipment on schedule, reducing missed maintenance and keeping critical devices compliant and safe for patient use.

Streamlined rapid response

Real-time visibility lets staff locate essentials instantly. For example, when wheelchairs or ventilators are needed urgently, they can be found without delay, even when shortages are reported.

Supported better patient outcomes

Quick access to scanners and ventilators speeds up diagnostics and treatment, cutting delays and enhancing care. For example, consultants used the portal to quickly locate misplaced ultrasound machines, ensuring timely patient scans.

Increased financial efficiency

RFID (radio frequency identification) tags ensure wards only pay for actual use, cutting charging errors and rental costs. The estates team is also trialling tags on high-loss items like step ladders to prevent unnecessary repurchasing.

Partnering with industry leaders for customer success

We launched our tracking solution in 2021, rolling out Impinj RFID readers at Bradford Royal Infirmary and Airedale sites. For St. Luke’s, BTHFT will add 40 Zebra Technologies readers with 80 antennas. Zebra Technologies is a global leader in mobile computing and data capture solutions. These readers integrate directly with the existing network and platform, and the dual-vendor model delivers site-specific flexibility and uninterrupted tracking.

Andy James, Sales Director at Lyngsoe Systems, explains, “We have been delivering end-to-end solutions for over 30 years and work with many of the leading hardware manufacturers. Impinj and Zebra are just two of our valuable suppliers and we are delighted to see this expansion project, adding the Zebra FX9600-4 reader to Bradford NHS Trust’s network.”

Building on Scan4Safety

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was an early adopter of Scan4Safety, the £12 million DHSC (Department of Health and Social Care) program launched in 2016 to enhance patient safety and operational efficiency via GS1 barcodes and RFID. Partnering with our team, Bradford and Airedale Trusts tagged up to 38,000 assets and installed readers at critical locations, enabling real-time visibility, proactive maintenance and adherence to the “right patient, right product, right place, right process” protocol.
